Ship's Status

Post by Calan » Sun Sep 25, 2016 4:28 pm

Today (9/25) the ship leaves orbit, heading to Saturn.

((There will be no specific event for this, as it is a simple order given on the bridge. "Engage, make it so." RP guide is as follows: Wrap up any off-ship RP, and get your character to the ship. By the end of the day, the ship will be considered on its way to Saturn.))

The ship has arrived at Saturn. Following ship-wide diagnostics, we will set sail for Proxima Centauri.

Engines have engaged fully and the ship is now on the way to Proxima Centauri.

The ship has arrived in the Proxima Centauri system. Preparations are being made to launch the survey probe.

Information as presented during our meeting:

Upon arriving in the Proxima system, we connected with the local communications relay as there is no colony in this system. It was learned that there are two other ships in the system with their transponders deactivated. As this is abnormal, ours was also deactivated and a decision was made not to communicate using the relay.

At this point in time, it was discovered that our quantum communications node had been destroyed. Our engineer suspects it was intentionally sabotaged. It is unknown whether the sabotage occurred before or after we boarded the ship, as it could have been programmed to self-destruct at a given time or location.

At Saturn, our engineer had discovered an imbalance in the engines. This had been dismissed as a simple inefficiency, but given the possibility of sabotage of the communication equipment, this imbalance must be looked into before we can risk using the engines.

Only recently, two more ships were detected entering the system, both with their transponders deactivated.

Conclusions:
The ship is stuck in the Proxima system until we can determine the engines are safe to use. Furthermore, without communications, should our engines fail in interstellar space, we will not be able to release a distress signal without a quantum comms device. The ships in this system are of unknown configuration and unknown intent, but it is likely not anything good.

Engineer has informed that the engine imbalance is in fact not sabotage, but an aging part. This part is not a threat to the ship and the engines can be run safely to the best of her knowledge. We will resume our mission to deploy the survey probe immediately.

The probe has been deployed, and it even seems payment for our services was paid almost immediately. We have been able to make some communications to the relay through the probe.

((OOC note: If you did not participate in this RP, it is entirely possible that your character was not aware this even happened until reading this.)) During the deployment, our shuttle was attacked using light weapons by an unknown vessel. A separate vessel also attacked Corvus shortly afterwards. Several direct hits were made against the shuttle and the Corvus, but emergency repairs have been successful. The shuttle sustained damage to one of its engines and hull, and the Corvus sustained only hull damage to the best of our current knowledge. Thankfully, the living areas seem to have not been hit.

The ship is currently in an eccentric orbit around Proxima Centauri star as we continue repairs and analyze the information that our shuttle obtained about a debris field in orbit around Proxima Centauri b, the same location of the mysterious flash. It is apparent now that a ship was destroyed while in orbit. Identifying marks were located on the ship's remains and are being analyzed to determine its origin. Corvus was also able to obtain some imagery of the ship which attacked her, which is also being analyzed.

Full repairs have been made to the hulls of Corvus and the shuttle. Shuttle engine repair is ongoing.

Analysis of the debris found in orbit around Proxima Centauri b suggests an official ship from the planet Proserpina of the colony Vita Isabella was destroyed. Upon deployment of the TTMC probe, we were able to determine that the probe was in fact not searching for minerals to mine, but rather for something man-made as it was searching for steel and titanium. Such a thing was actually discovered by the probe before the probe stopped transmitting, presumably destroyed by our attackers. This raises more questions than it answers.

Upon discussions with the residents and crew, we have collectively decided to return to Proxima Centuari b for a closer look as soon as the shuttle's repairs are complete. We do not know what to expect once we arrive. Corvus will move to the location low and fast to drop off the shuttle and then retreat. Then we will return for the shuttle at a pre-determined time.

Our shuttle mission was a success, and we were able to make it to the surface and back without incident.

We located a crashed research station on the surface of the planet, apparently used as a make-shift escape pod. There were two survivors, a mother and an infant. The mother claims that they are from Vita Isabella, the same colony whose ship was destroyed only several days ago in orbit. She claims they are the reason that ships are crawling all over the Proxima Centauri system- in search for her and her daughter. Our landing party was able to retrieve them both safely from the research pod and return them to Corvus.

Corvus has left the Proxima Cantauri system and is now on course for Aporthitos penal colony. While in route and after mother and daughter have been examined in med bay and have had some rest, we will speak with her more to find out exactly what is going on.
